I'm picking primarina but this is something that actually disapoints me. The other 2 starter get good useful moves, something not so common for starter's signature moves, but primarina gets a attack that has a side effect that ruins it, Surf with sound properties would had been okay, but then you add the ability to heal the opponent burn and it is not okay anymore.

More frustating is that you need this to use its signature Z move. I'm just gonna be using Sparkling Aria in-game for the Z move.

Honestly I can only come up with a couple of explanations for everything they did with Primarina.

>they think water/fairy is way too overpowered and went overboard on nerfing it to compensate

I'm inclined towards the latter. At least the issues with the other two can come down to standard bad stat distribution, and the movesets can ultimately be salvaged. With Primarina you get a signature move that is Surf with a negative effect, and an Ability that is an -ate without the thing that makes them good. Those are the kind of things they'd have to go out of their way for.

Oh and the obligatory gender ratio mention.

I think the idea is that you're supposed to burn them with Scald, then heal the burn to get extra damage on Sparkling Aria.

It's not even really a counter to Guts+Flame Orb. Almost all Guts users are faster than Primarina, so hitting them with Sparkling Aria does nothing as they got the hit first and they restore the burn at the end of the turn. And every other guts user pretty much dies to Moonblast or Hydro Pump. Is there possibly a signature move that isn't present or some shit like hold hands that is as useless as Sparkling Aria?

Present, Delibird's signature move uses random damage variables like Magnitude, but one variable can heal the target. And also maybe Hold Hand. Not 100% sure if it is a signature move and hold back which may also not be a signature move and also has outside uses.

At least Present has a chance of dealing higher damage too, it's just a gamble ability. There is literally no reason to use Sparkling Aria ever unless you want to use the Z-move, in which case you could just use the generic water z-move instead.
