I notice this also about the Ash pics people were outraged about in the previews. All those weird Ash faces, and the scene with him looking clueless in the school, only lasted about a second on-screen when its in motion so it didn't look bad.

I think Sun/Moon is the type of series that will look different in screencaps than animation, at least for Ash. He didn't look anywhere as bad as the pics made it seem.

Just watched the first 2 episodes.

The animation and artstyle are good and smooth and look great in movement.

And for having an actual plot, this started interestingly, along with having likeable characters.

I stopped watching the pokemon anime mid Hoenn since I kinda grew up and wasn't interested anymore but this reignited that little spark in me.

I'm not a fan of the artstyle, it feels jarring to me. Almost like it's not fluid.

But that's just me and I can see how other people might enjoy it.

In terms of actual plot, I honestly felt like it was rushed through, especially with regards to the characters. I hope they have more exposition on who the other people are because from an anime standpoint, they're nothing more than people with funky hair and some shoulder pokemon.

I think you should hop back and enjoy DP and XY since both had amazing plot, amazing characters, and Ash being competent really gained ground here. It's a shame, Ash as a character really started to improve right around where you quit watching the anime as he started to put it all together.

Literally the whole reason I came to /vp/ was due to the hype the XY anime was getting and Serena's crush. I came here early in 2015...I remember people going crazy when the date episode title was announced. Everyone was championing XY as a "return to form" for the anime or "the anime at its best" and praising competent Ash and Amour.
