I deserve anything I get for being impatient and playing the game early, if not solely for being dumb enough to check which legendaries are shiny locked via online trading.

But I had a good time, got my initial 50 hours of fun in before the ban, and I'll be playing my copy of Sun on my normal n3ds when it gets here Friday. If it's not actually a permanent ban, then I'll probably make the same mistake again in the future.

I don't have any regrets. I just feel bad for the people who apparently don't have any other options aside from piracy.

There are two bans right now. One for services and one for games. The one for games is fixable but the long-term repercussions are unknown still.
The service ban effects the eshop, friends, and other nnid related services. That one may be permanent but right now won't interfere with playing online.

Look into changing your friend code by transferring the localfriendcodeseed_b from one system to the banned one.
I'll say it again. No one knows what this will do in the long term, and if the ban is temporary you'll be kicking yourself for messing with it if it goes bad.
