Agreed. It a small thing but it was always neat. I think having the bright red, blue and yellow cartridges was a nice little marketing gimmick on GFs part aswell. You could always tell when some other random kid was playing a Pokemon game, was fun.

as someone who has worked in product manufacturing, trust me, it would hike up their costs.

the manufacturer who assembles all of their carts would have to order an insane amount of new material and completely rework a production line just for that colored carts.

I'm not defending the grey ones, I really wish they'd still be colored. But it is indeed a bigger expense than some people expect. Nintendo is counting pennies at this point.
