Nope. It's slightly better than ORAS, but all the wasted potential with the UBs and tapus keeps it below these games.

It's a big step in the right direction after the shitshow that was gen 6, though.

Sun/Moon is way better than X/Y and probably slightly better than ORAS. Definitely not nearly as good as HG/SS or B/W.

Honestly the small number of Pokemon a huge letdown, especially given how many are UBs. Pokemon is fundamentally about catching Pokemon and in Sun/Moon I'm having a hard time filling a team with only new pokemon I like. Sure not every Gen 5 Pokemon is a masterpiece but when you get 156 new Pokemon you're bound to find quite a few you like, and be seeing new stuff throughout the game.

The only game before that that would go there is Emerald. HG/SS are strictly better than G/S (and R/B for that matter).

But B/W and HG/SS were shit. The only thing good about them was that HGSS had a relatively decent postgame for its time, and B/W really don't have anything going for them other than perhaps a few memorable characters.

I don't know. I need time to let the experience sink more and know for sure where I stand about Sun/Moon. Maybe it's above BW, but still bellow HGSS, Platinum and BW2, but that could just be hype of the moment as I really liked those games.

There's no denying it's a big improvement over Gen VI, though. Even if I have my gripes with it I feel like Pokémon is back on track.
