I'm terrible at hacking but if I really wanted to I would at least try it or have someone do it for me. I had someone hack a PSP for me because UMDs suck and the OG PSP was great for playing GBA games.

The only games I care about on the 3DS are pokemon games. I hadn't even bought one because SM was the first pokemon game in a long time to interest me. I'm paying 200$ just to play SM. I might buy the second version too since I'm buying a second 3DS to trade with myself. So in the end I might spend over 300$ just for one game. I easily put 400 to 500 hours into a pokemon game so I don't mind paying for it.

I have nothing against hacking. I got back into pokemon by playing GBA roms on my PSP, which I still consider the best way to play GBA games. Then I moved to cartridges because I wanted the physical games with more permanency. Now I finally got a 3DS and have a lot of catching up to do.

Worth the money for me. Especially considering how well pokemon games hold their value. It's basically free.
