It's actually my favorite episode in the whole Ashnime. All that doom music with that smug unknown superhero obliterating the MC, subverting the trite trope that all losses should be close matches.
Ash pulls out a lot of old fan favorite mons, giving them a chance to shine again against an uneven genius trainer.
All watchers' hopes were so unceremoniously crashed in front of my eyes.

Charmander has inferiority complex when it was caught by Ash. So everytime it was sent out to battle, he was a tryhard. When he evolved into Charmeleon, he figured that he soldifided his place as the strongest 'mon and started being a lazy cunt, he evolved into Charizard because it wanted to show how stronger he was against Aerodactyl, and fought Magmar because he thought it would be worth a fight.

Tl;dr Charizard would only fight if he found the Pokemon worthy of fighting

If I had to name the other members of my top 5 they probably would be

The only league he actually won even though it barely qualifies as league one may say. The fight was pretty damn dope though, I'm a huge fan of Ashs original team.
>Ash vs. Harrison
The introduction of Blaziken was pretty damn cool that time. If you're not a 30yo manchild then most of us were kids that time so we didn't know that it was obviously ruby/saphire marketing and we just enjoyed the great fight.

Blastoise vs. Charizard was pretty damn nice. It was a battle one wanted to see since day one and it paid off.

It surely wasn't the best fight ever qualitywise but that Darkrai and Latios managed to leave a lasting impression so it deserves a mention.
