SM has really great story, as good as BW, but not a lotta new Pokes similar to XY. Enough things are changed up that it probably won't feel boring, though. I'd say give it a try.

There are ~80 new Pokemon in a 300 mon Pokedex + some regional formes. I thought it felt a lot better than XY in that regard but still not perfect.

In terms of new Pokemon it's not really great. Think of it this way though, you also get gen 6 pokemon that you missed. Though I don't remember many of those being in Alola.
