>hacked my brother's 3ds he got on his birthday a few weeks ago

>2 hours ago he came to my room hitting my door nonstop
>he can't beat Totem Wishiwashi

>ask him why he has no other pokemon
>"It's annoying to play more than one I don't know which one is good"
>check his older game saves
>lv76 Greninja and Lv84 Sceptile, the rest are HM slaves

Anyone else actually did this as a kid? I remember grinding the fuck out of my mons back then on Gen II and III, now I understand why people call gen 6 are braindead easy
>>
>>29928672
Why would this even be a problem since last gen when exp share is given early and shares exp among all 6 of your Pokemon.

It isn't just kids. I've seen 20+ year old people who find Pokemon hard. Just think about that sentence - I first beat Fire Red when I was fucking 7. Lots of people like to mock video gamers for being fat no-lifers, but from what I've seen, they're the ones who really need to look in a mirror, since you must be pretty fucking retarded if you can't beat a children's game like Pokemon.
>>
>>29928672
I just didn't understand coverage back then. When I gave my kid sister Black 2 recently she kept trying to replace Magnezone with random shit I caught her in Dream Radar like Gardevoir and Giratina and as such had literally no coverage against Water.
>>
This happened all the time

A lot of kids beat their first pokemon game with just their starter
>>
>>29928672
Tell em to watch the show and find out type coverages. Watching the anime as a kid taught me to use a fully diverse team.
>>
I only used my starter for the first island and a half because I was struggling to find Alolan pokemon that I thought were actually interesting and I wanted to do a new Pokemon only run. Rockruff made the grade and then it started flowing more naturally.
>>
>>29928701
In X and Y, Nintendo really, really, really wanted you to use something other than just your starter
>here's your started
>here's a free kanto starter
>here's a free torchic for speed boost blaziken
>here's a level 30 lucario
>here's an exp share that levels your whole party
>>
>>29928672
Not that bad, OP.I did something similar when I was 9. Didn't know how to switch so at Mt coronet my team was Infernape lvl 84, staravia, bibarel, golbat, Floatzel and roselia all under lvl 30. Did not go any further than that because I was afraid of Cyrus.
>>
>>29928859
You forgot the free lapras
>>
>>29928859
you forgot
>Hey! dont have a good surf mon? here take this lapras it even has a unique surf model!(that we took out in ORAS for some reason)
>>
>>29928672
A year or so ago, I gave my old GBA with Fire Red to my little brother (8). I told him: "Try not to skip through all what people say in this game because they often give you hints about where you have to go or what you have to do."

An hour later I go check on him (I was pretty excited about the idea of him getting into pokemon tbqh) and he was playing with mom's tablet.

I asked why wasn't he playing pokemon and he told me that "That old guy won't let me get out."

I check out the game and he was stuck in Viridian City. He never realized he had to bring the Parcel back to Oak.

tl;dr kids can be retarded and masuda was right
>>
I caught a lot of pokemon, but I only used Blastoise in Blue. I mean it had Surf, Earthquake, Blizzard and Hydro Pump so I didn't feel the need to use anything else.
>>
>Buy brother DS and first pokemon game (Platinum I think it was)
>He starts the game
>few weeks later he tells me its too hard and he cant beat the game because his pokemon suck
>check team, its his unevolved starter and shitmons, all level 100
>what did you do
>the first gym was too hard so i had dad buy me an action replay
>I gave myself unlimited rare candy and leveled all my pokemon
>now they won't listen to me so i can't beat the 1st gym
>these games suck
>>
>>29928672
Using only one or two Pokemon? I do this since Pokemon Red, but at least I try to give them a good coverage. For example, here's my Leaf Green team:

>Charizard (Wing Attack, Flamethrower, Brick Break, IDR the later)
>Nidoking (Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Earthquake, Sludge Bomb)

And the rest of the team either HM slaves or Pokemon I'm training for dex completion.
>>
>>29928986
>they took it out of ORAS

For what purpose
>>
>>29929319
So every gen would be special and unique!
>>
>>29928672
its hard when you are stupid, i was 6 years in my first playtrougt of crystal and got to Morty with a fucking Meganium that was my MAIN and HM SLAVE. HOW FUCKING DUMB, i deleted the save and trained 5 pokemons and one slave, easy.
>>
>>29929034
Lies.
>>
>>29928672
I still do that. He's right, it's annoying especially because Pokémon caught during story mode will probably have worthless stats and messed up EVs.

I just want to get to the end asap because postgame is the real game.
>>
>>29928672

I beat gens I through III with only my starter (Fire errytime)
>>
It's normal with children.
My first game was Gold when I was 9, my party was lvl70 Typhlosion + HM slaves.
>>
Even back when I was 7 I never understood this

>me, my brother and our cousin all have the gen 2 games

>play the fuck out of them

>we all decided to have a battle after we beat the game

>I have a pretty diverse team, at the very least had feraligatr, noctowl, ampharos between level 60 and 80

>cousin's team is level 100 typhlosion and hm slaves

>brother's team is a level 100 fucking kingler

>he beat the whole game by hitting the guillotine button

>he fucking reks me
>>
>>29928987

Kids can be super retarded. Some weeks ago, I had the kids of some family friends in my house, so I tried to introduce them to fucking Mario Kart.

You know, the game where you just hold a and push left or right.

They were fucking going straight into the grass and the borders of the circuit every single time. It was Mario Kart 8's Mario Circuit. The one who got to the finish line first took 5 minutes.

This is the Ipad generation.
>>
I think the thing kids were dumb as bricks, but they just give up too easily nowadays
>>
>>29929609
Mobile games are more and more becoming people's first experience with video games

This means that they're used to instant gratification and short playtimes, which are both anathema to classic jrpgs like Pokemon
>>
>>29928672
I remember playing Red as a kid. Chose Charmander as the starter. Had to grind to level 20 on fucking Pidgeys and Rattatas so I could beat Brock. Thankfully, they gave him a steel attack in FR/LG

Why are you lying?
>>
I play this way....
Am I a scrub, veepee?
>>
>>29929817
Why? Just use Ember, it deals good damage despite being super effective due to Geodude and Onix' shitty Special.
>>
>>29928869
I was in a similar situation in Platinum. I had a level 80-something Infernape. I did everything with relative ease, but everything went to shit when I got to Bertha. I never got to finish the game because my DS stopped working out of nowhere. To this day I crave Gen 4 remakes so I can finally finish the game.
>>
>>29929034
>now they won't listen to me so i can't beat the 1st gym
Lies, lies, lies. If he kept OT, TID and SID (which he likely did if he just changed his mons' level to 100) then they would listen to him regardless.

Why are you lying on the Internet?
>>
>>29929869
Because I was a dumb kid who loved grinding. Shit, Chrono Cross was too difficult for me back then because there was no grinding.
>>
>>29929869
Not him, but Steel Claw is more convenient on FR/LG, assuming you reached lvl 13.
>>
>>29929034
What a shitter
>>29929850
No i beat crystal recently with just gatr
>>
>>29929910
Yeah, but... why would a dumb kid NOT have their fire lizard monster use its fire attack on their rock opponent? When they see it hits pretty hard, that's their cue to just keep using it.
>>
>>29929869
*despite being not very effective
Fuck how did I manage that
>>
>>29929944
Did you play fucking Red? Ember did as much damage as scratch to those fuckers.
>>
>>29928672
>>"It's annoying to play more than one I don't know which one is good"

That's legit though. I know I don't want to sink 30 hours in the game to find out the monster I liked was ass and I could have raised better options.
>>
>>29930014
The hell it didn't. Did YOU play it?
>>

>>

A lazy math says Metal Claw is ~3 times more effective against Geodude than Ember.

I can redo the math with complete numbers if you want, but it won't stray too much off this.

Speaking as a dude that had a SNES controller in his hand before he could walk, I mean... Maybe I shouldn't be so upset that most kids these days suck at video games, but I think that's a reflection of the quality of games themselves.

Working a controller was (not very, but still) physical, it was tactile, and it used muscle memory. Tapping this and that on casual smartphone and tablet games is a far drop from that older gaming culture.

Obviously game content is different too - casual games were meant to give busy normie adults a cheap and easy way to kill spare time. The modern freemium game evolved from casino/gambling body as, and weren't originally intended for children. Games for kids should be more in-depth, involved. It should give them a world to jump into like a good book. This is why Zelda, Pokémon and other long-standing franchises became what they are. Adults didn't play too many games back when those games were first making names for themselves.

The late eighties to late nineties are were something of a golden age for quality gaming, especially compared to modern state of the industry, aside from certain (mostly indie) devs. To again compare games to books, those from the former are intelligent, exploratory literature from masters like Twain and Wilde, while modern games are, for the most part, are about as artistic and insightful as an issue of Maxim.

When i was a kid, i thought Altaria was an Ice Type because of it's color scheme and i always sent it against Wallace's Milotic because i also believed that Ice > Water.

He's just a kid. He doesn't know the game in depth because of exactly that. He's a fucking kid.

Let him be and if he needs advice just help him, faggot.
>>
>>29928672
I got through Red with an overleveled Charizard, and through Gold with an overleveled Feraligatr. The rest of my team were there for HMs and to take a fall when I needed to heal/revive my starter. It wasn't until Gen 3 that I actually felt the need to make a team.
>>
>>29930245
It doesnt seem like kids are playing console games the way "we" used to when we were kids. I have 6 cousins between 11 and 5 and none of them own any consoles or handhelds, instead they all play shitty freemium games on their phones that are absolute garbage.
I feel bad for them.

>>
>>29928672
I did this as a fucking adult. I used an unevolved level 98 Zigzagoon to beat all of generation 3 just to prove to myself how fucking easy pokemon games are. The only challenge was PP
>>
>>29930435
None of them are native english speakers, so I dont know if they'd like to play Pokemon. Not sure that's an excuse since I got through Red when I was 8.
>>
>>29928672
I never did this. Nowadays I capture a bunch of stuff and rotate teams a lot, but as a kid even capturing just things I liked I always had a full team and a few spares I changed once in a while by the end.
The starter and two more pokémon I always used (usually the regional bird and something that covers my starter weakenesses) always got overleved.
>>
>>29928987
>>29929584
There's a reason the younger generation on South Park is too dumb to figure out how to play video games and just watches Minecraft streams on Twitch instead of playing them.
>>
>>29930481

>>
>implying steamroll isn't the easiest way to play

Your bro fucked up by not fighting every trainer.
>>
>>29930481
I got through Blue at age 9, but I was a readfag from an early age and my grandpa got me into RPGs the year before Pokémon even came out in NA... Still though, it can't be that bad.

I had a Japanese friend when I was younger, he had moved here a couple years prior. We traded GBC games. Can't remember what I gave him but he gave me a Japanese Medabots game (Medarot 2 to be exact, the one that the English release for GBA is basically an FRLG of). I couldn't read shit, obviously, but after playing around I figured out the battle system and the menus, and if I got lost in the game I would literally just talk to everyone and try every door.

I never beat it, but I got amazingly far considering the only things I knew for sure how to read were "hai" and "iie"
>>
>>29928672
I always had an autistic team made of differently typed pokèmon all on the same level, since I started playing with red when I was 13.
>>
>>29930521
And Swedish still isnt one of them, and thank fuck for that. Kids should learn English. If I lived closer I'd probably make sure he played more videogames but I guess that's just not possible at the moment.
>>
>>29930521
E português não é uma delas.
ot him, btw
>>
my first game was white and I use only my starter Samurott the entire game, until the giratina event came by and I used that from clays gym on despite it being level 100 and it wouldn't listen to me half the time
>>
I always managed to at least have 2 or 3 Pokémon around the same level and it would usually be the starter, the regional bird, and whatever I felt like catching later to grind up.
>>
>>29930573
El español sí es. Y eso es como el portugués pero sin las estupideces de ese idioma de perros

>>
While Steamroll usually works, Wishiwashi is the equivalent of a fucking Legendary until you lower its HP enough.
Nigga needs to get a Grass Type like Tsareena or Lurantis.
>>
>>29930065
I did the math for a lvl 13 Charmander vs. lvl 12 Geodude (both Bashful, 15 IVs everywhere, no EVs), and here are the results:
Ember 15.1 - 21.2%
Metal Claw 30.3 - 36.3%

So I think the one who should to learn to damage calculator before calling other people liars is you.
>>
>>29930324

>>

>>
>>29928672
When I was 8, I got stuck around the Ghost gym in Diamond. Eventually I got my Infernape to lv. 60 before figuring out how to continue
>>
>>29928727
Lots of people just struggle to understand mildly complex games that require thinking other than "press button to shoot gun". So a lot of them especially don't understand RPGs.
>>
>>29930665
Squirtle gives you most coverage against most gym leaders, so it's the superior choice based on starter alone, ofcourse getting a good water type is not hard.
>>
>>29929319

>>
>>29930627

>>
Wow its almsot like kids have a hard time understanding games based heavily around concrete rulesets
>>
>A game about catching and collecting creatures
>A game about forming bonds of friendships with your favorite of those creatures
>Relying on a Pokemon that was handed to you in the first 5 minutes of the game and the first one you catch
Fucking why

>>29930649
Not him, but Ember is a good alternative to anything else that just has Tackle, Scratch or something else dealing physical damage.

Ember, although it isn't very effective, is a STAB move and hits a weak Special Defense.
Metal Claw, while being Super Effective, his a stronger physical Defense and is not STAB.

>>
>>29930573
I think every single pokémon game at least up to Gen IV has a Portuguese fan translation though.
Brazilian fan translation scene is pretty strong, or at least used to be until 10 or so years ago. I haven't followed it closely since I learned English, but I catch word of translation patches for newer games every once in a while, especially JRPGs.
>>
I did something nearly as retarded and made my Feraligatr in Gold an HM slave, and then soloed the Elite Four with it. To be fair, I did actually try to use other Pokemon. Dratini was my nigga.

>>29930812

I'm focusing on this fight alone. Specially because at that level you don't really need to choose between attacks - provided you're lvl13, you will have both.

For "anything else", I agree. And in Red (no Metal Claw), a Charmeleon with Ember is still better than nothing.
>>
>>29930812
>fucking cherrypicking faggot
It looks like the one unable to do math here is you...

>I don't know which one is good

I get this. Gen 5 was the only gen that made leveling up pokes easier. In every other gen you have to check base stats etc ahead of time or else you risk it all being a huge waste.
So introduce your bro to base stats etc OP. He's gotta learn how to vet pokemon ahead of using them.
>>
>>29930828
I redid the math here: >>29930649
Your results look slightly different. Are you using 31 IVs for both?

>>29928727

Shit's getting grim, you need to viking the fuck up and slay those trashy mudslimes + their enablers, Sven.

Pokémon is one of those things religious, or should I say, cultist nuts aren't very tolerant about.
You're people, no, the whole of the western world must make a choice.

You think the japs would've made the games you like to play if they were to be infested by that plague?
>>

>>
To be fair, I think kids nowadays don't spend a lot of time playing games because back when I was a kid if you got a game you were expected to play it to completion because it was the only one you might get.

But even then, we all did stupid shit. For example, first time I played Emerald I couldn't get past the footprint guy for a day or two and had to ask a friend to tell me how to go beat May to get past him. Then of course there was that time I grinded up a Linoone to Level 92 with my other mons at around the 50's to beat the elite four.
In truth, kids would be better at the games if they just stuck with them more.

Out of the all games i had to use full teams twice - gen 5 because everything there is fucking horrible and gen 7 because everything decent now has coverage and totems can utterly push your shit in if you don't cheese them with Z moves and are out of coverage yourself. Seriously, power fucking herb on the second island, i swear they have minmaxed ev/iv too

Lies.
Even if the pokemon weren't his.
the pokemon would eventually do what it wanted and one shot the gym.

Its our media and leftists mostly, everyone else wants to be left alone and that's not great when the mudslimes show up and want to ban our pokeymans. Also I've only really heard the saudis ramble about Pokemon.

I hope you realize what you just said is the same exact shit every other generation has said about the following one. Congrats on falling into that trap.

My little brother is the same way, and he's fuckin 12 too.
>he's played every game from pearl on
>assumed he knew what he was doing
>turns out he couldn't beat the 5th badge at pearl
>had one of his school friends give him a level 100 perfect arceus
>now just uses that to beat every single game
>only uses legendarys on play throughs
>literally waits for someone else inject or beat the game
>just to get a faster easier playthrough

As a kid I always had a team of six going - these days, since maybe halfway through gen III, on my playthroughs of the story I usually accumulate about 12 good pokes and train them on a rotation, then split them into two teams for two different E4 runs. I plan to do the same with SM. It helps keeps my levels low and makes the whole ordeal more involved.

I overleveled my Typhlosion back in Gold, only started gitting gud around Gen 3.

Yes, the games mostly feel easier now because we know the ropes.

RBY is full of shit like that. CBT did meme translations before it was cool.
But I remember playing GSC and RSE by other less idiotic translation groups and it was alright, for the most part.

The best course of action is always try learning the original language of the shit you play instead of relying on translations though. That includes learning Japanese when the official English translations are shit.
But realistically, you can't ask that from most kids, so I don't have anything against translations. I was introduced to most NES and SNES RPGs through them. And it was playing stuff that wasn't yet translated that motivated me to learn English in the first place, and then Japanese.

Too bad nowadays I only find ironic "religious" shitposting against Pokemon Go. But at least found something on Bulbapedo

Some outspoken, fundamentalist Muslims claimed that Pokémon is a Jewish conspiracy that is intended to brainwash Muslim children to make them renounce their faith. These same groups claimed that the word "Pokémon" is a phrase that means "I am Jewish", with the claimers and their followers generally unaware of the franchise's Japanese origin. The "Evolution vs. Creationism" conflict was also commonly brought up.

Pokemon means "I am Jewish". I think my sides just died.

Getting the rights to a game and making it something else by changing sprites was pretty common back in the 8 and 16 bit eras.
Super Mario Bros 2 and Adventure Island were born this way.

Saudi government, there arent that many sandniggers where I live, its one of the few places without a ghetto. Pokemon isnt as popular in the mainstream anymore, not like when we were kids when you brought your cards and games to school. If that was still a thing I'm sure sandniggers would get uppity or steal shit though.

I remember this. my Gf uses nothing but dragons and legendarys.

couldnt beat her with defaultmons.

after i breed my default team with 6IV´s and Ev training, i can wreck her with just my garchomp and she is furious

Ahhh, sweet rage
>>
i always used a full team, though 1 or 2 pokemon where like 10 level in front of the others.

like my team was around 60 and the regional bird was still 40 since it just...didnt do much. still couldnt abandon it.

Not sure if serious, but the moderation is able to check IPs so it's easier to delete all the posts from a single shitposter.

And this picture has been sitting on my hard drive since /tr/ times.

i remember when i first played through colosseum all i used were a level 100 ampharos and plusle and just spammed thunder on everything

Sure it has buddy. If that was the case then why did the mods delete your post in the first place if it shares an IP with the guy who posted about Red, and his post wasn't deleted? Wouldn't they know they were both from you and delete both posts?

to be honest sharpedo is tiny so youre holding onto its fin.

Also its unique in that while surfing on it speed is increased but your encounter rate is lowered.

Beyond 'water puts out fire' he was throwing shit without a clue.
At first he was complaining because he thought Malamar was a water type. Its a squid i could forgive that, but then he is wondering why his electric, fire, water, and grass wasnt doing shit against a Noivern. he even threw a normal and a fighting attack against a Gengar.
he's been playing since gen one. He just assumed that some attacks were good and some were not with no rhyme or reason.

No, the smart kid recognized the raroty of the starters was valuable and traded them for better shit. Thats how i got a Golem and a Gengar for one stupid little charmander. The true starter of the the elite was Nidoran (male im my case)
>>
>>29932845
The even smarter kid farmed starters with a buddy, and had all three at once.
>>
>>29928672
I actually am sort of guilty of it, when I played through gen 3 and pearl, my starter was the only thing I used, I was a dumb as fuck kid...
I got better when platinum came out and used a more fluid team though so there's my silver lining

I sort of remained stuck on Pokémon Yellow (Goddammit I was 6, I barely could read the text!), and couldn't beat Brock because I thought grinding was boring and kept losing my money agaist him. I remember I got to the point I couldn't buy a single Pokéball. When finally reached the end of Mt. Moon I was so happy.
Nex, a few years late, it came Pokémon Leaf Green (yes I skipped Gen2, but played them later as Gen2=best gen) where I got to the end but, kinda forgot to beat the League?
After that Emerald was a smooth sailing.
>>
I never beat gen 1 or 2 without rare candy trick / legendaries as a child. the first one I beat legit was sapphire in middle school. you fucking suck at video games when you're 8 years old dawg.
