It's a combination of 2 Pokemon concepts: ghost ship and algae. I imagine they had artist's block with an algae Pokemon so decided to just combine it with a ghost ship/shipwreck that they were already working on.

On one hand that sucks because that probably would've given us our 2nd Grass/Water and 2nd Ghost/Steel, rather than 4th Ghost/Grass. But on the other hand, a Gen 7 algae Pokemon would just be a vague female humanoid with seaweed as her hair.

Him and Decidueye will be duking it out for slots in OU I think. They're damn near identical in role with them both having trapping moves, hazard removal, and setup with SD. I think Dhelmise will come out on top due to it trading mixed attacking stats and Nasty Plot for higher initial power and Power Whip which is a much stronger STAB than Leaf Blade. Though it also loses out on Synthesis so maybe it's the other way around.

Either way one is going to be OU and the other UU. I don't see them both in the same tier due to having near identical roles.

There are now 4 final evolutions with the combination of Grass and Ghost, and they were all introduced in the last 2 generations.

I know I sound like a faggot that's splitting hairs, but Ice-typed Pokemon got a buff, the Ice-type itself didn't.

An added resistance or removal of a weakness would go a long way in improving the type itself. It'd also help if Gamefreak would stop making slow, defensive Ice-types.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy about the various toys Ice is getting this gen, but there's still work to be done.
