I use both on my battling teams all the time. Porygon's evo line is perfect and pretty rare because of how obnoxious it is to obtain/evolve porygon.

He's doing what he did in XY.
Travelling to other regions to understand the power of Pokemon. He goes to the Battle Tree probably hoping to get a taste of some of the Z-Move power.
I hope Game Freak continues to develop him, and to be honest he's the perfect character to possess all of the tech items related to Pokemon, like the DNA Splicers, the RKS Memories, Genesect's drives and the Beast Balls if they're used in future games.
