why? to get a stronger water STAB? nah

still shitmon
>>
>>29901715
i like it, it reminds me of the tektites on lake hylia
>>
With burn immunity, decent physical coverage and strong Water attacks it'll be decent with a Choice Band. A shame about that speed though.
>>
>>29901785
>and strong Water attacks

Is this some epic meme going on right now?

Next people will start spreading false rumors about Corrosion buffing up Poison moves.
>>
>>29901846
a 170 BP moves (not counting STAB) which also lowers defense? Surely not strong.
>>
I already have apologized and will breed many spiderbros

>favorite gen 7 mon turns out to have a great ability
Feels nice
>>
Wait, what did I miss? Is this not a shitmon? Please tell me I'm wrong.
>>
>>29902205
Water Bubble not only gives burn immunity but also doubles the power of water type moves
>>
>>29902205
Water Bubble is pretty much huge power for water type moves
>>
>>29902205
His ability act as huge power for water version and immune to burn. Coupled that with liquidation and you got some powerful STAB.
>>
>>29902205
Water Bubble doubles the power of water type moves before STAB. Essentially Araquanid gets huge power but only for water type moves. Not amazing, but good.
>>
Reminder it hits harder than Azumarill with its Water moves.
>>
>>29902232

actually that's very amazing the only thing keeping water spider not totally bork is no aqua jet and slow as fuck speed and not having actually strong base offensive stats if it's that good has it is with 70/50 think what this thing would be like with 90/70 base?

People dismissed it as the worst of the gen.
It's still terrible, but it's leagues ahead of our first impression
>>
>>29902357

So Pyukumuku is the worst again?
>>
>>29902370
I don't know about that. I think Pyukumuku is extremely niche and not really fit for a playthrough.

Aside from that, I want everything to settle before jumpong to any conclusion, like we did with the Pokemon at case
>>
>>29902336
>bulkier than Rayquaza
>>
>>29902500

how is 68/92/132 bulkier than 105/90/90

The sp def is significantly higher, but that awful HP stat more than makes up the difference.
>>
>implying double water power isn't a bug and GF will fix it in day 1 patch

We have proof that water bubble doubles water attack BP, anon.
>>
>>29902571
>bulkier than Cloyster
>>
So I was thinking

Leftovers
252 HP/252 def
-Liquidation
-power split
-Leech life/Lunge
-stockpile

I purposely make it as bulky as possible with no offensive investment. You can easily force most fire types out, so when you switch in araqaunid and eat up a fire move, you can use power split to weaken the physical attacker they inevitably send in (you would probably have just as good physical attack as if you were to invest 252 into attack) and then you can boost your defense, or just kill it with liquidation.

Bug attack is just there for water immunity/a grass type
>>
>m-muh 170 BP!
Like it matters when everyone knows to send in their water resist/immunity
>>
>>29902679

Although, stockpile is probably dumb. Maybe toxic would be better. I guess it could be better for anything bulky that resists water
>>
>>29902720

Fuck off. I'm just happy they made a bug that probably protects monobug from fire spam. I might still forgo araquanid and just stick with bulky armaldo/volcarona, but this should be fun

>400+ BP hydro vortex
>>
>>29902357
It's not terrible in doubles though, respectable bulk and it has a few fun tricks like entrainment, power split and wide guard.

Best part is it doesn't care about carrying coverage so it avoids moveslot problems. Max def with Liquidation/Scald/Wide Guard/Protect (can be swapped for either entrainment on teams with something that benefits from water bubble like Gyarados or Power Split) will be great.
>>
>>29902804

I would definitely replace scald with at least toxic, so you don't immediatley lose to water immunity. It's jellicent all over again

I WANT TO SEE WATER BUBBLE LIQUIDATION VS OU
>>
>>29902925

It could be either one. You could argue they would no way make a pokemon that shitty without giving it some interesting new ability. Or you could argue that gamefreak is so incompetent at coding that it's a bug, and they are so incompetent at balancing that they thought original araquanid was acceptable.

I feel like it was intentional though, seeing as araquanid doesn't have spider web. If it had spider web, it could effectively sweep grounded foes that get slowed down

The only calc you'll ever need
>>
>>29902949
Here's some fun ones I saw:

>252+ Atk Choice Band Water Bubble Araquanid Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 93-109 (54 - 63.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
>252+ SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mew: 295-348 (86.5 - 102%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
>252+ Atk Choice Band Araquanid Liquidation vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mew: 339-400 (99.4 - 117.3%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
>>
>>29903019

I'm curious if 252+ atk choice band will be the main set though. It's slow and physically frail, it might need to go another route. Won't be OU though

Running Lunge + Mirror Coat in tandem as well as status or infestation/web trapping with its defensive spread can beat a surprising number of Water resistant pivots. It's not as one-dimensional as you think just because it can't beat Ferrothorn.
>>
Okay, we've established it's a great ability but there's still some potential. What would Araquanid need to be considered truly great?
>>
>>29903050
CB and defensive power split are the two singles sets I see gaining traction. This thing's a very good band user simply because he only has one or two attacks worth using.

Unfortunately it lacks a decent support movepool for singles.
>>
>>29903129
Aqua jet
>>
LITERALLY

INFERIOR

AZUMARILL
>>
>>29903129
Aqua Jet. It's pretty much a non-factor without it, sorry.
>>
>>29902925
Definitely a bug. They'll patch it out on day 1. It's not intended to boost water moves.
>>
>>29903129
Higher HP, reliable recovery, a stat redistribution that favors speed and attack.

Water bubble is actually fucking stupid on any non-shitmon with a decent water STAB. The fact that this gets entrainment basically ensures it will be used in doubles. It's literally a better friendly swagger. Gyarados/Araquanid will be a premier VGC combo.
>>
>>29903199

This. Azumarill already has the absurd water STAB attack. But azumarill also has priority, and can use absurdly powered coverage moves as well.

I can't think of one advantage araquanid has over azumarill, other than being able to take on SOME grass types
>>
What's the defense lowering rate on Liquidation? As well as the attack lowering rate on Lunge while I'm at it. I really like reliable stat boosting/nerfing moves like Charge Beam, Power-up Punch and Acid Spray since they're untauntable.
>>
>>29903247
>I can't think of one advantage araquanid has over azumarill, other than being able to take on SOME grass types

It gives you a different kind of coverage with bug and has good special bulk.

It will never exist in the same tier as Azumarill, but it might be playable in UU?
>>
>>29903247
It's burn immune, which is pretty big for a physical attacker.
>>
>>29903293
UU will be the realm of Joseph Joestar, Araquanid is BL2 at the highest

>>
>>29902750
the other water/bug, golisopod, is far better:
>double priority, indluding a signature move
>far better attack and defense
>still good spe def
>same typing

Imo, the only thing helding it back its his ability which can be a double edge sword sometimes
>>
>>29903431
You're dead. my field partner used any attack.
>>
>>29901715
Still no solid proof water bubble boosts water moves, nice
>>
>>29903186
Burn immune (practically Fire immune), higher defenses, Mirror Coat, trapping, Ground resist, no Grass weakness. You could run this alongside a Ground/Water type and actually cover each other instead of exacerbating a problem. This Pokemon actually has some dirty tricks up its sleeve, whereas you 100% know an Azu is going to either Drum or attack.
>>
>>29902370
It probably is Palossand now, right?
>>
>>29903529
You still lost a Pokemon to this for trying to special attack it. Mirror Coat doubles the returned damage remember. Trust me, I play showderp and there's a Wartortle memeset there with massive SpD that still fucking crushes enemy Zapdoses and Thundurus-Ts for trying shit, it's fun
>>
Damn this is great, i was worried he would be too weak even for a in game team.
>>
>>29903899
It works, but is situational like shit

Chances are your opponent is sending chansey or a water absorber again you, or even a physical attacker to take on his weak defense
>>
Feels like a Monster Hunter-tier ability 2bh
>>
>>29903336

>UU will be the realm of Joseph Joestar

Who is Joseph supposed to be?
>>
>>29904055
Actually your misconception about this being a special-attacking Pokemon (Liquidation is physical and this Pokemon has somewhat higher Attack than SpA) raises an interesting point in favor of using this over Azumarill. It could actually hit as hard specially as Azu does physically, which Azu is limited to. Probably best on a set with 3 support or status-inflicting moves though since its other special moves aside from Surf/Scald will be ass. Physical at least has the super-annoying Lunge which is just barely usable off a base 70 stat as opposed to a 50.
>>
>>29904308
Physical hits significantly harder because of the extra 20 points being doubled for Liquidation and Liquidation having 7.5 power more than Scald

Maybe you were using a bad move to make a point, the only reason you would ever want to forgo liquidation, is if the opponent both resists water and is weak against the coverage move (or if the opponent is water immune). Neutral STAB liquidation does more than SE poison jab

>>
>>29904432
Obviously it's stronger physically, in a vacuum. Sometimes a Pokemon is not used for what it's actually best at but instead what its competition can't do. Azumarill can't hit hard specially.
>>
>>29905701
But Azumarill also can't get burned.

You're right though, Scald might end up better just because burns make it a lot bulkier than it already is. Then again, Liquidation might be better since the defense drop helps it break Stall a lot more easily.

It does, not that it really matters,
But it doesn't get Sticky Web, which is a fantastic move.
>>
>>29906952
It can trap things that won't want to fight it, which will be numerous because that category will include basically every single user of special offense barring ubers. It can survive Thundurus-Therian Life Orb Thunderbolt and will always be able to Mirror Coat it. Beefy wall or setup Pokemon that wouldn't be OHKOed by one Liquidation will have to fear getting trapped and killed by 2 or 3 so just attempting to lay/remove hazards, trying to status it and then switching out, etc won't have a favorable outcome for them anymore. Araquanid should almost always run a trapping move. The decider is between Infestation and Sticky Web (I'm leaning towards Sticky Web just because Infestation is Contact and Ferro is this Pokemon's main counter).
>>
>>29908779
How do you even trap before they switch out to bring a physical attacker? That's what I don't get.
>>
>>29909556
>just attempting to lay/remove hazards, trying to status it and then switching out, etc
Support and defense Pokemon that aren't afraid of one individual Liquidation will want to do this kind of thing if they aren't in danger of being trapped. The fact that they can be trapped by it will make doing so costly.
