There are lots of people who actually do by both versions, and that's not even to mention that B2W2 are their own fucking game. Not a third version, not a sequel, but a different game on its own. You would do more right by comparing to RS and DP than Emerald or Platinum.

I honestly don't think that they're anything special.
They're basically what B/W should have been, but then again Gen V was stale and dated as fuck when it came out in the first place.
Gen VI and VII are actually better in that they added some amount of freshness to the franchise.
Megas, fairy type and alolanforms are all cool, welcome additions that can excite both casuals and longtime fans.
Gen III, IV and V to me are incredibly forgettable, bland and ugly games. The overhead world and the sprites should have been gone in the Gen IV era at the latest.

The game is very accessible, but some totem fights are really hard for a post-Platinum Pokemon maingame. Normies will rage at some of them for sure, unless they are raising a balanced team.

There's also a NPC fight that I consider on par with BW1 Ghetsis.
