From what I've seen, the AI ramps up as you progress. You can battle most of the trial captains but they're all optional.

I'd say that while the game gradually increases in difficulty, it really spikes post island 3. Not running the EXP Share or using Refresh is gunna make it gruelling. Don't even bother nuzlocking it without the EXP Share, that's pure torture.

I think when people ship (or I certainly hope so) they add up Chicken-chan age to at least that of adult. I don't ship them together for obvious reasons.

If anything Guzma isn't interested in the protagonist other than wanting to rebattle him after he comes back. The relationship is probably close to that of friendly rival.
Guzma leaves with Hala at the end of the game to become stronger and teaching him the right direction of being a Pokemon trainer. Of course this doesn't mean anything going on with them. Who am I kidding, of course there will be at least one bara artist shipping them in Pixiv.

Not a lot of solid info, but a couple of interesting implications.

What we know for certain: Guzma was a highly accomplished battler from a young age whose fault was that he focused too hard on crushing the opponent rather than teaching/learning through battling. Guzma came to loathe Alola traditions after failing his captaincy test.

He has a specific, personal beef with Kukui. What I find really interesting is that Kukui objects to being called a fellow reject ("I CHOSE not to become a trial captain!") but doesn't object to whatever Guzma hates him for.

From the sounds of it, it is. Pokemon has the bad habit of teasing actual good characterization and plot points at times, and then drops them without any further mention afterward.

It's particularly egregious here because I think it says something more about Kukui here than it does Guzma. Kukui is about 100 times more successful than Guzma at this point, being a respected professor and is in charge of building the Pokemon League, but he comes across really defensive in their conversation. Seriously, his rebuttal -- "I CHOSE not to become one!" -- comes across as him trying to justify why he didn't become one rather than admit he failed (at first, possibly). Guzma seems pretty damn determined to make Kukui suffer too, which reeks of an old relationship between them.

And then this never comes up again.

Since Kukui seems really damn flat as a character, it's possible they had him doing more in the story and it got cut later on. They probably salvaged the Guzma encounter because it might have been interesting.

They did it in XY, too - we know very little about Sycamore and Lysandre's original relationship, except Sycamore later says in Couriway that he 'always knew Lysandre desired a beautiful world' and then... never spoke to him about it? That backstory could have been so interesting and they completely ignored it, is it any wonder that people turn to fanworks to fill in the gaps?

Yeah, XY was a trainwreck regarding this. It had other problems (such as the plot not actually happening until after Anistar City), but the lack of explanation for anything just compounded everything. It's possible they had been planning on a third version to tie up some of those points, but it got railroaded into ORAS and forgotten about entirely.

Hm? No, the scene in the cafe takes place when you return to Lumiose to tackle the gym. Lysandre hasn't made his announcement yet. He's definitely not stupid, given that he has Sina and Dexio investigating and working against Flare, I just think he wasn't able to confront Lysandre, for whatever the reason.

And AZ was the original creator of the weapon after Floette died - he used it to bring her back to life (and it's inferred that they both become immortal because of it), but still has enough anger at the world that he converts it from a resurrection machine into a weapon. There are documents in Lysandre's lab that confirms that AZ's brother then became king and passed down the story, and Lysandre is descended from AZ's brother.
