There have been some really confusing stats ever since Pokemon has been a thing, but this generation is absolutely fucking mindblowing. Why is everything so slow? Even Mudsdale, a fucking horse Pokemon, has an absolutely awful base speed stat of 35. For the life of me I cannot fucking rationalize this. Every fucking Pokemon is slow as shit. How in the actual fuck could a horse Pokemon be this fucking slow?

Because of speed creep getting absurd and game freak getting tired of mons getting shafted because they had less speed.
Because they wanted the game to feel more like an RPG and the enemies more dangerous. Which is to say, make them faster and hit harder. They do that, and you can't easily one or two- shot these guys that can set themselves up.
