It's just a little old since it's STEELix. Changing steel to anything else feels like sacrilege.

The only way it could probably work would be if alolan onix didn't evolve at all

THe only reason they didn't go there was because Steelix had a mega-evo, and they didn't ant to have alola form mega evos.
