What does scanning a shiny QR code give you? Nothing? I don't really understand what the QR codes do exactly. For example, if I scan a Gengar will it show me where to catch a Gengar in the wild?

You earn a normal scan every 2 hours, and they save up to a max of 10. Each scan earns you 10 points, and when you reach 100 points, you can perform an Island Scan. Your scan points can be accumulated past 100
