It's in the same vein as Unova and Kalos so you can challenge the E4 in whatever order you like.
First time you fight Kukui at the end.
Afterwards it's random, who you fight at the end.

Being champion is now something real. The first time you beat the elite 4 you take the throne as Alola's champion and Kukui is your first Challenger. Every time you beat the Elite 4 afterwards a new challenger will come in to try to be champion. It's like Punch Out Wii's Mac's Last Stand. I dunno if they become champ if you lose and you have to get the title back, I haven't lost yet.

Thanks a lot man. It is cool that they have some Champion-tier characters with specialized teams to add them in. So if I read it correctly, Ryuki has a Dragon team and Molayne is Steel? If combined with the other TC's, Kahunas, and E4's, that only leaves Normal, Bug, Psychic, and Poison as the only types that don't have a major specialist in the game. Still better than most gens.

I'm thankful they put this feature in, but I'm also disappointed with the lack of effort. Why couldn't it be something like this:

Acerola and Kahili to a degree mention something about it. Acerola basically says that the champ must always prove that they are still stronger than the e4. Both of them also want to beat you and take the title for themselves.
