You don't actually end up overleveled.
The level curve is weird as fuck so it can feel like it, but all the major bosses are a few levels over you.

It's fine on its own, but if you level a pokemon's affection even ONCE they start getting boosted exp gains and it gets out of hand.
One or the other is fine.

It's not a difficulty option though. You apologist faggots just like to say it is just to suck GF's cock and pretend it isn't a terrible design. It's like saying the PokeMart is actually some ebin hidden difficulty option and if you want hard mode you're supposed to not use it.

If they wanted a difficulty option they would show it explicitly on main menu or in the options like they did literally the game before XY. I can't go into a game BLIND and guess for shit to arbitrarily not use just because the devs couldn't balance the game properly themselves.

I used both the Exp Share and got my pokemon to two hearts in refresh for the Exp boost and still ended up slightly under or matching champion levels. And I fought every trainer I came across
The game does a great job of making you think you're overleveled like >>29848797 mentions but really the bosses can still surprise you or completely kick your ass.
