Z-Crystals are held items of a given type, and if the pokemon holding it has a move of that same type, once per battle (one Z-Move per team per battle) they can perform a Z-Move of that type. For offensive moves it powers them up ~80 BP up to a cap of 200, it goes through Protect and immunities at 1/4 damage, and gets rid of secondary effects (including priority and self-KO). For support moves it does something like give an additional stat buff or heal the user, or some other effect. Some pokemon have unique Z-Moves that must be performed with a certain move. The Z-Crystal stays after use, so it can't be combined with Acrobatics/Unburden.
