Totems and some lategame fights are somewhat of a challenge, it's better than gen 6 in that aspect.

Lurantis is more difficult than the entirety of Gen 6

The Salazzle Totem fight is harder than anything in XY and ORAS combined.

The second totem fight has a School Wishiwashi in the rain, that can summon a Pokemon with Heal Pulse.

A bit more difficult, but not a challenge by any means.

Based on the leaked gameplay vids of someone battling the Elite 4 on YouTube, I'd say they're more of a challenge.

Wishiwashi was a bitch for me too because I started with Litten and Charjabug died so easily.

I'm stuck on the elite four right now and am somehow 10 levels below all the E4 pokes. Dunno what i did, maybe skipped too many trainers along the way. Caught a mimikyu and been trying to raise it up with exp share doesnt help the cause

I caught one of the level 18 wishiwashi before Lana's trial and I used a z-move to one shot salazzle.

AI was better. Elite 4 switched a pokemon into one with water absorb when I used a water move. Can't say that ever happened in gen 6.

The hardest part is that in just about every battle of importance your Pokemon are always going to be slower. It's fucking retarded. All the trial leaders and kahunas, elite 4, etc. have these Kanto/Hoenn pokemon that have decent speed stats and you get raped by them.

I want to use the alola pokes cause they are new, but im underlevelled at end game and get shut down because of the speed stats. There is a Primeape absolutely pushing my shit in and I have no counter to it because everyone on my team is slower than it

The funny thing about this game is that a lot of the new Pokemon available in S/M are so shit (for ingame, probably comp. too but that's not relevant here) that it naturally makes the game harder, especially if you turn off exp share.

So many Pokemon are slow as fuck with mediocre defenses but one really high attacking stat but that doesn't mean as much as you'd think for ingame.

Still easy though.

It was a challenge for me to beat when I had turn exp share off leading me to be heavily underleveled by end which was was fun and challenging in one hand but very item spammy on the other.
