Now I really want one gor the entire Alolan Dex

So has anyone figured out how the island scan actually works yet? The first one I did was a Horsea and I couldn't possibly get to it 7 hours into the game.

The second scan I have is Klink and it says it's in Hau'Oli city but I'm not seeing it anywhere.

what are these codes for?

Ok nevermind, like a minute after posting this I got into a fight with the Klink and caught it.

Seems like they just randomly appear in battle, no shadow in the grass like people were saying yesterday.

You scan them and it marks the pokemon in your dex as "seen" which lets you see their habitat. Which would be no big deal but this game actually has a real functioning map so you can actually zoom in and see individual patches of grass that contain said pokemon. In addition to showing what time of day you can catch it.

Then after you scan in 10 pokemon you get an island scan which basically says "hey there's a rare pokemon nearby you somewhere, you have an hour to find and catch it." Nobody knows what the limits are of the island scan but there were people getting chikoritas yesterday even on the first island.

The catch is that you need scan charges to actually scan QR codes and you only get one of those every 2 hours. So you basically have 20 hours in between each island scan you can do.
