Anyone tried Nuzlocking the game? Is it fun? Better/worse than previous gens? What about all the separate sections of the same route?

SM Nuzlock can be pretty brutal, depending on if you go with "1 Pokémon per route" or "1 Pokémon per area", since routes are split up into multiple chunks now.
The fights scale pretty quickly now. With the gen 5 EXP scaling and the +250% from EXP share, they can go pretty wild with the fights, and they did. Game hits especially hard when you don't have reliable access to Dark or Fighting mons on the first island.

I am doing one, its pretty intense, lost the starter really fast
I'm not doing it for my first playthrough, temptation to catch new Pokemon will be too high. Going to play Sun for awhile then later start Moon nuzlocke. Glad to hear it's pretty tough, should be interesting. The route setup might mean needing to tweak rules to per-area like >>29801610 mentioned doing.
My big concern is just how you cant skip the little cutscenes and there are a lot of them so far, feels like more than any other game's start. Not really looking forward to doing it over and over.

I am playing by one catch per map division for routes. Also a rule I devised for Z moves is I am only allowed to use each Z crystal once in the whole game

Doesnt seem like I'm getting too many. On the second island there aren't many routes that have multiple catches. Route 8 for example is huge and has a lot of areas to catch but still marked as one map zone so only one catch
