It's an actual physical place now, basically Join Avenue from BW2.

You can only access the online bottom screen while in this location. Good news is that you can teleport to it from anywhere with a single button.

You can't. The routes as we knew them are no more. The map is now separated in irregular areas or districts (some of them are still called routes) and each one has 0-3 landing spots. Most of this spots are pokecenters as there are a lot of this between cities (like the one outside mt.moon).
