Got my first mission, Looker said there was a sighting at the Volcano Park and Diglett cave, both areas have some serious music but I've looked everywhere and nothing has changed, I've even talked to all the NPCs and they're saying nothing different.

Zygarde had 80 less BST than Xerneas and Yveltal in XY too. If Necrozma is the third legendary it'll get a new form for sure. Kyurem and Zygarde had less BST than the others in their trio specifically so their new forms in later games could actually be stronger rather than what they did with Giratina and switching it's defended with attacks, removing it's legs and calling it a day.

What exactly ARE Ultra Beasts, & what does that make Necrozma if it isn't one?

Ultra Beasts are Pokémon from a completely different planet in a completely different universe. They don't seem to have humans or any species capable of training them so they evolved down a very different path to Pokémon in the main universe. Wormholes have led them to the main universe where they're wreaking havoc because they weren't designed to fit into Alola's ecosystem.Pokeballs have trouble identifying their DNA as Pokémon DNA so Beast Balls were created specifically for them.

Essentially they're very distantly related cousins of modern Pokemon but from another world too. They might be what Pokemon were like before humans evolved. And Necrozma is genetically halfway between an Ultra Beast and a Pokemon and has slept underground for thousands of years. He's pretty much confirmed as the third main legendary this gen and we know nothing else about him yet.

I like to think the first time the ancient laser canon was fired it sent a beam out into space and destroyed a planet full of cellular life. 3,000 years later a meteorite housing a small group of those cells gets hit again when Lysander activates it (with the laser just brushing it) giving it life.
Also that laser used Pokemon life force and possibly ended up making the Mega Stones, so that could explain why Deoxys can change forms, because it's a Mega in flux.

I haven't been completely spoiled yet so I don't know about that. But Aether thinking that Arceus would be able to stop the ultra beasts doesn't mean they're right. For all we know Arceus is also some alien beastie from a different dimension than the ultra beasts and is just, like, mid-tier or worse if compared to the ultra beasts as a whole. The worst part is that it could still be basically god and have created the universe, if it's from another dimension, it's emergence in a pre big bang universe could have been what created the universe as we know it, yet it doesn't guarantee it being stronger than the UBs.
