Gen 1 may have started it all, but it was blander than any other game. 2 added a lot of stuff, but story went 10 steps backwards tried to mooch hype off of the original games. 3 was better in music and plot, but outclassed later. 4 had underground, deep plot, HG/SS with Pokewalker, GTS, transferring, and more. Heck, I even like the babies and evolutions. 5 had great plot and Gen 4 music. 6 was really bland minus the Delta episode bomb. 7 seems really polished, minus the occasional stutter.

I can't remember a single city or route theme so far, and I'm on the third island. Yes there are a few good themes (Team Skull) but most of it is so bland, dare I say worse than XY. Listening to Ecruteak's theme again after going to the city modeled after it in SM just makes me miss good music.
