I was thinking the same. There's also the fact that the last time there was a remake for the first gen was in the third, being the only remake before the DS era.

Let's not forget that there's the obvious fad about Pokemon Go, even if it's pretty much dying, it served its purpose: To bring pokemon to the mainstream again. It's the perfect opportunity.

Also, they can't just make remakes of the 4th gen so soon. Can't get too close to the 5th.
