They appear to be a thing. They're in the game. As for whether they're obtainable or not I'm not sure. But I'm sure you'll be able to purchase them with BP just like the previous games.

Next you're gonna tell chain-fishing for shinies is also gone. Pokeradar probably ain't coming back (even if it did, i suck at that method anyways).

Shinies are still valuable regardless if Gen 6 made them easier to obtain. The way probability actually works in these games, you're not guaranteed to find a shiny after 512 encounters.

You could get a shiny on the first egg hatch or the 1000th. The idea is that in a large sample of shinies collected, the total amount of encounters should eventually balance out into that average proportion of 1/512.

It went from 1/8192 for previous gens to 1/4096 for Gen 6. Add in the shiny charm, and 1/4096 becomes 1/1024.
Hunting via hordes + shiny charm makes it faster to find a shiny.
Friend Safari was a fixed 1/512, as was Dexnav.
Pokeradar was still the same as it was in DPPt.
Chain-fishing was added and relatively fast. Probably fixed rate as well.
Masuda Method stacked with shiny charm also became 1/512 (I think).

Friend safari: 1/819, 1/583 with shiny charm

Chain fishing: Every chain adds +2 shiny checks. Chain maxes out at 20+ for a 1/100 shiny rate

DexNav: Shiny rate increases with search level. Chains only increase the shiny rate on the 50th and 100th chains. Every other number in the chain is no different. Shiny charm double-counts.
