ingame obviously you have four battles in a row and then the champ, if there is one at the time.

obviously the e4 has to be great, but the champ has to be godly. like leagues above the e4 themselves.

All we've really been told is that if you win a league, you get to enter the Champion League where you can battle the Elite Four, but the exact details on this has not been revealed yet.

Unbeatable-tier, pretty much. Alan defeated Pachira in the fourth XY special but she was most likely holding back and letting him win there.

We don't know. They never even mentioned the word "Champion" until gen 3 or 4, and the Champion League was only introduced in gen 4 as well. Prior to that we just saw the occasional Elite Four member as random cotds that usually taught the protags something or other.

That gives you a right to challenge the Elite Four and the regional Grand Champion.

Either that, or the next step is, the Champion League.

Anime introduced Lance pretty late, so I think the assumption is that he's always been the Kanto/Johto Champ.

That's what I disliked about Gen 1. Too many Pokemon that look too realistic and like real life animals. If you are going to make fantasy creatures, give them that fantasy look.
