When I was in middle school and Gen1 hype was at its strongest, around the time Burger King had the poke balls with cards in them, Nintendo held an official tournament at a mall close to my house. You had to bring your own gameboy and cart and I waited in a 3 hour line to get in. If you beat three rounds against other players you were put into a line to play against the Nintendo official trainer on the BRAND NEW COMING SOON Pokemon Stadium for Nintendo64, where they would import your 3-Pokemon team and play your battle on a big screen for everyone to see.

I had a team of six: Pidgeot, Golem, Blastoise, Alakazam, Gengar and Lapras. But it was my Pidgeot that was the clutch in my battle against the Nintendo trainer and won me a plain black baseball hat with the Pokemon logo on it. I was mad that it wasn't the hat Ash wears in the anime.

Ever since, Pidgeot has a special place in my heart.
