To think, all Absol needed was maybe like 40-60 more base stats (something around 510-520) and it would have been amazing.

The biggest problem is that it's a slow glass cannon. Mega Absol fixed this but it's forever crippled by only being really usable (competitively) when in Mega form.

Its mega form was great until they introduced diancie and sableye in the same gen. Its niche was lost and it's back to the bottom of the NU pile. Absol never stops getting cucked, the only gen that seemed hopeful for it was 4 when it got a huge movepool boost and the physical/special split was a huge buff.

Shadow Claw may be better because it actually is super effective on some types unlike Slash. But Dark and Ghost are super effective on the exact same types, so having a Dark type attack already covers those types. In that case, Slash might actually be better now that I think about it, but I'm not entirely sure.

I don't know much about competitive battling, though, so you should take this with a grain of salt.
