I've been playing through it recently and it's just astounding how lazy and stupid the dialogue is. It's like the whole game was written by the "I like shorts" writer, then run through Google Translate to get it into English.

This. B2W2 had a fair amount of bad dialogue, but the game still usually made sense when something happened. XY has a lot of "go here cause we say so now leave with no actual new info" like the whole fucking arc near the beginning where Snorlax is on the bridge. You go a few places, get the flute and return, nut there's just so much shit dialogue that feels useless in the middle

Every dialogue i have seen in demo from the french and US version, i have noticed that it's been simplified in the US one.

He is a generic NPC character (there are others exactly like him in Hau'oli City) whose only purpose after giving you his item is to act as your save button.

It's a Nintendo series. Every single one of their main IP games (with the exception of maybe a few Metroid titles) has this sort of weightless silly childish dialogue. It contributes to their sense of lighthearted fun and all-ages playability.
