trade evos had a purpose when gamefreak pushed the idea of playing with friends but even then as now there is a flaw with this thinking "what if you don't have friends that play pokemon?" people say that you can trade online but that defeats the purpose of playing with friends and there is no certainty you're getting your mon back, so if anything trade evos are and always were just a nuisance

Assuming you have more than one game, like if the shiny were in pkmn OR and you also have another 6th Gen game like x then follow these instruction:

1. First on your pkmn x version put up a shitty Pokémon like caterpie on the gts and ask for the species of said shiny pkmn. Make sure to put something recognizable in the message. Then save and remove the game.
2. Put in the pkmn OR game (the one with the shiny pkmn) go on the gts, and look for your own pkmn. Once you find it, trade yourself the pkmn.
3. To get it back put the shitty pkmn back on the gts and ask for the EVOLVED form of the shiny the pkmn you traded. Don't forget to leave a recognizable message.
4. After saving and removing pkmn OR, Insert the pkmn x game and turn it on. Once you get to the gts find the shitty pkmn you left there and trade back your newly evolved shiny pkmn.

This only works if you have 2 Gen 6 games. If you don't, there's always eviolite.

Trade evolutions cut me off from so many pokemon I love. I still have my oringal DS and my 3DS so I can trade for gens 4-5, and I am lucky to have pokemon playing friends for gen 6-7, but that still doesn't eliminate that its a shit mechanic. I want to use trade evos on my playthroughs but I can't do it without either bugging a friend or trading away my own trained pokemon for some lvl 1 schmuck from the GTS. Its inconvenient and unnecessary.
