I appreciate their effort to make it look more cartoony. Obviously this was made as a sort of in-between, but still -

It just feels weird? I can't properly describe it, maybe someone who has more experience with animation/character design could? It just doesn't feel like a proper exaggeration?

The way they're doing it is literally a hybrid of modern day japan anime and old school western cartoon anatomy
It can work extremely well (i.e. Gurren laggen with the stretchy as fuck robots and things of the exact calibur) but as you can see, they're treading on foreign soil and only know dumb faces, so in general don't expect shit that isn't a dumb face to be good

Ok so it's one thing to not work on the background characters too much because that not only takes up too much time that can be worked in the main focus of the animation shot, but this shit is unacceptable, Because not only did they actually TAKE TIME TO DO WORK ON THEIR FACES, but also did it HORRIBLY and this is from a fucking big studio with enough people who should know anatomy.
