It does feel weird when a main girl leaves knowing they won't be around, then as the series goes on year after year the old main girl falls further into the past as if she never existed.

I mean its only been 6 years since DP ended and now Dawn feels non-existent. Its been 10 years since AG ended and May is long gone. Just think about how much focus the writers gave them and now they're basically gone forever.

With Serena it feels the same, with the only exception being the off-chance the S/M style is hated by Japan and the writers decide to wrap up Ash's story in the next few years.

People went into BW with high expectations due to Gen 5 being such a departure from the norm. We all thought this season with no Brock was going to be the big change the anime needed. The writers then had no idea what to do. So people stopped caring about BW.

XY was kinda strange in that, people were looking forward to it. And for the most part, it lived up to expectations.

SM is also a step in a new direction, but one that is wholly divided. I don't know what to expect. Maybe this will just be slice of life story with no actual end goal or plot relevance. Or maybe it could all lead up to a Champion's League type thing. I doubt the latter, but it could happen.

These two episodes are going to set the overall feel of this season, and I guess we'll see what happens.
