it is unclear if ultra beasts are just weird pokemon or actually something different. imo they would need to differ substantially in order to not just be pokemon by a different name.

we know that there are no knew typings in sun/moon but maybe ultra beasts don't have typings at all? maybe they have more than two typings? the guzma beast certainly looks like steel/electric and both of ub-02's look bug (bug/fighting for expansion and bug/psychic for beauty?) ub-01 could be psychic as well...and the more evil looking ones would most likely be dark.

maybe their stats are different from regular pokemon? maybe they all share a weird ability? i just can't really imagine what makes them not-just-special-pokemon.
