There are several similar lots all over the map, 7 in total. If we assume there's another hidden in a cave, underground, behind a mountain, etc., then it's very possible that these will become the future locations of the gyms, when Alola builds its Pokémon League.

I'd assume this usually but I just booted up the demo and checked and it's a very big plot, seems like waste of space for just a callback. Additionally theres no guy there. That and the fact that every city seems to have one about the same size really gives some weight to the gym theory, otherwise that would be a shitton of wasted space in each town.
