This. Why is this so hard to understand? Gen 5 is supposed to give the player the same feeling as Gen 1. A full 150 mon Pokedex with many parallels, aged protagonists to appeal to fans who were kids during Gen 1, even going back to a color name scheme. They're basically GameFreak saying "Here, you can experience this feeling one more time."

Because, Anon-chan, even if they have parallels in the way they evolve, they are completely different Pokemon. And out of a roster of 155 new Pokemon, only about half even have Gen 1 counterparts unless you want to start grasping at straws.

This is unfair to gen 5, there are some good ones in the middle of all that filler, the forgettable ones, and the outright garbage. It has my favourite flying type ( even though it deserved to be the first fighting/flying mon and it got shafted )

Also if they had copied the starters from gen1 at least they wouldn't have ended up with such forgettable designs, it's the only gen where not a single final starter stage is salvageable.

I see where your coming from ( it's certainly not ugly ), I just didn't care for it in-game while finding it all around boring to see and use. To me the starters are the most important pokemon in the game, if gamefreak can't manage to make those exciting and fun to use I feel they kind of failed in the design department.
