No, he's right on most things or at least to some extent. For example, the Gen 5 protagonists aren't the worst but they also aren't the best. The reason people on here overrate Gen 5 so much is because they are contrarians. Gen 5 is the least popular Pokemon gen despite being on the most popular handheld. They're just average Pokemon games with an average story that people say is excellent just because it's slightly deeper than the ordinary Pokemon story. Oh well it's still better than Gen 1.

I'm no Genwunner, but Gen I had nothing to improve upon, so I usually go easy on scrutinizing Gen I. The only thing I'll shit on it over is the design of a few pokemon. At least Gen V had the excuse of running out inspiration from animals and folklore. Kum, dugtrio, magneton, and bigger voltorb are uninspired and lazy. Voltorb I'll let slide for being a mimic, and maybe grimer since it is argued to be a classic RPG slime, but making them bigger or multiplying them is uncreative and dumb.
To me, Gen V was not as big of an upgrade from Gen IV because they are both made for the same system. Gen V, however, managed to stand out despite this fact by being overall more ambitious with its story, new pokemon, characters, and gameplay facilitation.
