I've always lowkey hoped the professors would let you battle them for certain rewards. Only one I remember doing anything remotely similar was Professor Sycamore, who just battles you 3 starters... pretty lame.

but seriously: the original idea in pkmn red and blue was the professor as final boss. it is still in the code. so judging on how many alola forms are based on gen 1 forgotten inspirations and ideas it might happen. but i doubt that he would be the strongest in game. that would be someone else.
