Not him but it matters to me. Pokemon are just strings of data you can recreate in 5 seconds, but the value in them to me comes from the circumstances surrounding it, like the effort you put into getting it for example.
I tried to gen Pokemon and I ended up just releasing all of them later, or using them to breed legit mons that felt "my own", so to speak.

I sometimes still whip up PkHex to edit IVs and sometimes get a really obscure gen 3 tutor move or some shit like that that no one in their right mind would go through getting legit, but downright genning Pokemon entirely doesn't feel right to me.

How am I being hypocritical? It's about what feels right to me. Hacking a Pokemon in entirely doesn't and makes that Pokemon feel worthless, but modifying the ones I do put the time and effort into to skip some very time consuming tasks that I wouldn't be able to reasonably complete does not affect my enjoyment at all, and sometimes enhances it a lot (like being able to make my starter bros competitive instead of boxing them forever after the main game). Do you even know what hypocrisy is?

Yeah, maybe the experience itself of getting lucky and seeing an awesome trade in WT instead of the usual early route shitmons is enough to make the Pokemon feel special to you, and then it being hacked doesn't matter as much anymore.
