INFO FOR ANYBODY WHO HAS AMAZON PRIME:

Currenly amazon is already discounting ALL the recent pokemon games to 31.99. This includes pokemon sun and moon preorders. Normally this probably wouldn't stack with the prime discount but other people including me have been contacting customer support chat and getting them to stack the discounts, taking the price down to ~25.59 Pic related. Some of the people who did this wrote how they did it in this thread on reddit:

It might not work for you but as long as you tell them that it has been working for other people they will either give you some credit or they will apply the discount. I typed up a message where i emphasized that my friends had the bonus apply and that I had read online that I could get it applied by talking to support. The person I got quickly did it for me. Make sure to write the 31.99 price and say that it should be 25.59 with prime discount, the more info you give them the faster they can do their job and less likely they will not let you do it.

Well there hasn't been a single Pokemon game to date that wasn't critically received in some regard.

The games themselves are always really solid performance-wise, and it's simply up to you to determine whether or not it's your cup of tea. However some people know this and are probably going to like the game regardless of it's changes. I've played every Pokemon game with the exception of D/P/P, and I've had fun with all of them. I remember being turned off by B/W at first, but when it's all said and done, I thought it was one of my favorites. I don't mind pre-ordering because I know it's gonna be a solid game and I'm more than likely gonna have fun with it.

Someone sell me on this game. I like the most of the new Alolan forms of older Pokemon, and I like most of the new Pokemon, but I know nothing about it besides that. I was almost considering skipping this gen because Pokemon is becoming a tiring franchise for me. But what do you guys think so far?

Yeah I remember when Black and White came out, I had intentions of purchasing it, but there were a few issues holding me back, like the new Pokemon, and not being able to (initially) collect older Pokemon until you had completed the game. But after playing it, I was really impressed. A reboot was just what they needed, and now I look back on it with massive nostalgia, which is something I only do if I thoroughly enjoyed a game.

I probably don't even need to watch the trailers or play the demo (But I will). I'm sure I'd like it regardless, because I've liked all of the others up to this point, so why stop now?

They'll only do midnight if:
1. There are enough preorders at the store to warrant having workers set up and get paid extra hours
2. The general manager can be assed to be there/approved someone else to take care of it

A lot of stores got hyped on doing a Skyward Sword midnight launch until preorder numbers came in and managers canned the idea. A lot of people who preordered thinking they'd get the game the night before because their store told them there was a release were pissed to wait.

If you got an enthusiastic GM that still loves games and your store isn't dead as fuck, you have a good chance of getting a midnight release. Just ask them and make sure to reconfirm the day before.

And generally if a manager shuts down the idea of a midnight release, that's when you hear the excuse of "Nintendo/Sony/EA/etc. doesn't do midnight launches (anymore)". Most companies don't forbid midnight launches unless a company broke sale embargo before and it's part of a no tolerance on their part.

What this translates to is publishers getting paid before they even deliver on a product. And publishers like easy money, so they double down on gullible consumers by locking content away with pre-order bonuses.
So pre-orders are just another way for publishers to milk hype culture and get people to buy games before they've seen them.

Preorders for most websites (even FUCKING GAMESTOP) don't charge any money in advance for pre-ordering, and most are free to cancel anytime if you decide to. Most stores don't charge either. Gamestop and best buy are the only ones that require deposits in store, yet if you order online to pick up at store you don't get charged.

It's worth it to me to preorder. Get the game guaranteed, don't pay money, and in Amazon's case, if they fuck up the price and lower it for 10 minutes, I get that new price without having to cancel and renew my order.

I'd love the steelbook but the only place to get it from is Amazon Canada. I'm in 'Merica so I doubt I'll get it at launch even with a Prime membership. Not sure how that works, but I'd love if they can grab a copy from a local warehouse or something.

Your personal experience with preorders doesn't suddenly make everyone else a savvy consumer that actually follows up on games after the reveal trailers.
E3 hype culture, preorders, and strict review embargoes are the unholy trinity of tactics publishers use to keep the public unaware of their scams.
It doesn't matter which companies are exceptions, contributing to the practice just continues the vicious cycle and gives more ammo to the publishers that think it's okay to bait and switch.
