But if that's the case, wouldn't the plot require them to evolve? That means you probably wouldn't be able to trade/put them in bank since otherwise you could get stuck.

I dunno. In the jap trailer you can see the MC playing with Cosmog in some city and such. I think you get it from Lillie somewhere during the main story
