It's supposed to be based on the Journey to the West pig character I forget the name of, it's thematic with Infernape. Should've been a Grass type or something though. That way a Water starter could've been the other character

It's valid enough if you aren't autistic about it. Game Freak does weird shit with their Pokemon all the time. Recently a lot of aquatic animals are no longer sporting the Water type like Eelektross, Stunfisk and Malamar

I think the only problem with Decidueye's Ghost typing is it simply doesn't invoke a spooky feeling because the green is too saturated. If it looked more like an autumn Pokemon, it would be amazing

Emboar, Samurott and Serperior could've been Fire/Dark, Water/Fighting and Grass/Psychic respectively, with a few moves changed. Get a double type triangle in Gen 5.

Empoleon should have been Water/Ice.

First, it's a freaking penguin, known for mostly inhabiting extremely cold areas. Second, it breaks the apparent theme (intended or not) which allowed all Sinnoh starters to have an edge against their superior.

Grass/Ground --> Fire/Fighting --> Water/STEEL? (Two weaknesses from Torterra).

I hope it's retconned one day. Probably won't, but this typing triggers me the most.

If that was what they were honestly going for then they should have made Magikarp evolve at Level 50 or something to justify it turning into a Water/Dragon

Though saying that, in Gen I, a Water/Dragon would literally have no weaknesses since the only other Dragon move was Dragon Rage that always did a smooth 40 damage. Gyarados being a Water/Flying might have literally been done because of balance. Though the rest of the games balance was fucked still
