It really made total sense for Murkrow, Houndour and Slugma to be Kanto-exclusive and yet every goddamn route needed a Rattata or Raticate. Fucking dumb motherfuckers

As a whole though, Johto's kind of a solid region in terms of being a sequel to Kanto. Unlike Hoenn onward where every single game became a soft reboot where they don't have to give a fuck about building continuity. The only changes I'd make is to completely change up the game to make the nonlinearity feel actually nonlinear by having trainers scale to your levels if that's possible at all

And make a proper route to Mt Silver available from Johto

Another town on the other side of lake of rage where those trees are. Make it like Innsmouth and be creepy, but in an ultimately harmless and endearing way.

Make Mt. Silver three times bigger. Bigger than Mt. Coronet.

The Dark Cave is twice as big and evokes the Sinnoh Underground. At its deepest level, not even flash works properly.

Outside of Olivine, add the battle frontier lite, it's the site of the first battle tower and can afford to have two more facilities as well. Make olivine bigger, a proper port with an expansive dockyard full of trainers.

Goldenrod City redesign, same general look and feel but now with expanded city streets and more buildings you can enter. The GTS side of town has more places to shop and battle and generally just feel comfy.

Ilex Forest has a new, massive eastern half accessible through difficult means. It's a giant tree maze with no trainers, a lost and forbidden forest people get lost and die in. Lots of sweet items lying around.

Make the gold forest behind Ecruteak accessible possibly post game to match Mt Silver), add 2-3 routes and a town in order to get to Mt Silver from Blackthorn. West of Olivine should get another route and a city/town with a large, active volcano. Goldenrod should have a beach somewhere.

They should redo the Whirl Islands and make them each have distinct differences instead of just being interlocking cave entrances. Small towns on each would be a plus.

Put all of the actual Johtomons in Johto and dont give them awful 1% encounter rates

The forest behind Ecruteak is accessible, leads to a new town. New route from the town to Lake of Rage.

New route from east of Ice Path, deep into the mountains, leads to a new snow town, route from this town to Mt Silver, the leage is on this mountain.

Cinawood to Goldenrod route

Expand Safari Zone Gate to a place more like Slateport, but dont lose it's "deep in the hills" vybe. Add a new location on that island as well.

Do something with the supposed Jungle where the Frontier is. Like make the places close to eat really rainy. Or something

Make Ilex bigger.

New Gyms in: Jungle town, Snow Town.

Mahogany loses it's gym and restores the ninja heritage. Watch towers are traversable

Cinawood loses its gym and becomes a tourist town in conjunction with the safari zone gate. Chuck spends time with his fucking wife.

All Johto needs. We really need games where Johto and Kanto are by themselves
