In another gen or two they'll probably add another shippy fanservice character to the show or one of the movies for a new generation of kids, and gullible shippers for the new one will insist that their's is the correct one because they put some extra minute detail in this time while ignoring whatever details might've been placed in the earlier ones (A good writer/artist will at least put some effort into doing some decent for what they're working on at the time).

The problem with that logic is that Yajima isn't directing the show anymore. Even if his series "confirmed" that Ash and Serena are canon, the next directors could (and probably will, considering how SM looks) completely ignore most of the development that happened in XY and do their own shipping bullshit in the future.

Just look at how much the current anime has pissed over Shudo's grave. Every season since BW has done its own thing, without caring that much about how previous writers/directors envisioned the series.

But of course, you could just pretend that XY Ash and SM Ash are different characters altogether, and that Ash's journey ended with the final episode of XY. That way it's perfectly fine to consider Amour as only and one endgame ship.

The only girls who have managed to get a reaction out of Ash "what is a girl" Ketchum are Melody and Giselle.
