The first form is obviously a diving bell spider that has the bubble around it's head instead of it's abdomen.
The second form is a mixture of a diving bell spider and a harvestman.
It's based on a bacteriophage as much as Ekans is based on the ebola virus.

it's used colloquially to refer to any land-based invertebrate, and the Pokémon type reflects that: Skorupi, Galvantula, and Ariados are all bug type despite being arachnids. Even Shelmet, a snail, is Bug type.

Bug
noun
1.
any insect of the order Hemiptera, esp any of the suborder Heteroptera, having piercing and sucking mouthparts specialized as a beak (rostrum) See also assassin bug, bedbug, chinch bug

267KB, 666x653px
>The word bug is often used to refer to tiny creatures that crawl along, such as insects and even small animals that are not insects, such as spiders and millipedes. But for scientists the word has a much narrower meaning. In the strictest terms bugs are those insects that have mouthparts adapted for piercing and sucking. The mouthparts of these bugs are contained in a beak-shaped structure. Thus scientists would classify a louse but not a beetle or a cockroach as a bug. In fact, scientists often call lice and their relatives true bugs to distinguish them better from what everyone else calls "bugs."
>>
>>29499293
>>29499298

Get schooled bitch.
>>
>>29499298
People define words through usage, dictionaries capture approximate definitions through cataloging. That is not exclusively what bug means, therefore it's not correct.
>>
I'd assume it's based on those spiders that blow a bubble so they can breathe in water for a while.
>>
>>29499170
it's a colloquial term for an invertebrate in the same vein as "creepycrawly" or "pest" in its arbitrary criteria. This is mirrored in the Japanese name being "mushi" as in 虫 which translates as broadly as bug, insect, or worm.

You're trying to pretend you're talking about the class hemiptera which is only ever referred to as specifically and explicitly "true bugs" there is no taxonomic "bug" class.

It's not surprising though. It's a common mistake.
>>
>>29499351

>>

I'm literally right. You're quoting an approximate cataloger, when bug may have originally meant something else, that is archaic, as anyone who talks about a bug now understands it means any creepycrawly. Sorry, you lose. Common usage is more meaningful than archaic usage. See the development of any language. Insert coin, try again you desperate contrarian.

É¡ras/
noun
1.
vegetation consisting of typically short plants with long narrow leaves, growing wild or cultivated on lawns and pasture, and as a fodder crop.

or
Use the more useful, specific, and descriptive definition used by scientists.

Did you know that "ghost type" is wrong? It means something new because scientists refer to "non-living, non-corporeal entities" as ghosts, but what about people? They're "spirits" right? If they can move lamps, they're "poltergeists". What is they're corporeal? Revenants. But they like human flesh? Ghoul. Or is it vampire? No vampires inject their teeth into the jugular vein of a human neck at a 45 degree angle when the moon is shining at about 3X270 W of luminosity.

>>
Can we really call them bugs if they do not fit the anatomy of earth-like AKA real-life creatures of similar biology?

Fire, Water, Dark, Ground, these are all fairly abstract concepts that can be applied widely. Bug is not.

That whole post was based on the fact that bug meant something before science tried to coin a new definition after they began to research these creatures and classify them. If ever ghosts were entered into science, that post was about how people on this board would break it down based on how scientists choose to redefine colloquial words or otherwise. And mythological creatures have classifications and lore, adding scientist into it was clearly for humor.
>>
>>29499996
it's facing backwards just like the final form. What you see at the bottom is the back of it's head. What you'd see as its trainer for both stages is its face.
>>
>>29500009
I'm going to try to explain this to you. Scientists don't use latin names because they're "cool". The use of latin names is to avoid confusion, because, when you say "a bear" you could be talking about any of the 8 species of bear in the world. Now, this is easily solved by adding complexity, like saying "Panda bear" or "Grizzly bear", however, this becomes a problem when you deal with uneducated people, as an example, in latin america they use the name "Gavilán" for a huge number of sparrowhawks, and what is called "Grey Gavilan" in one community can be called "Gavilanzillo" in the next one, so , arises the need for a standar name procedure, wich is the binomial system. Latin was chosen because at the time of the foundation of taxonomy, latin was the global language for science, and it stuck because changing the old names is a pain in the ass.

So, I hope you learned something and in the process you become less judgmental about things you don't fully understand.

>Niggerspeak is catchy - to niggers
and the droves of other low income communities that don't happen to be black, and the middle class communities of nonblacks that just pick up on it through shit like hiphop, and technically now the kids of the black entertainers that escaped the slums, so basically a notable portion of most major socioeconomic classes. Just because it's trash doesn't mean it doesn't have footing in our modern culture, no matter how much we disagree with it. Vice versa, just because it has footing doesn't absolve it of being trash either.

I can do this too my nigga.

>Follow the conversation
>I dont read the conversation
okay
>Languages never evolve from slang
wew lad
>Bug is slang
This is also wrong.

>>29500478
And no matter what, that's a red herring. If niggerspeak happens to change English entirely, and not just small sects of youth and other niggers, then so be it. Words are grunts that we give definitions to. If they change, or the definition changes, or becomes less exclusive, then again so be it.

Jesus christ you both shut the fuck up.

Joke was funny and on point, if you don't like it it's ok just stop arguing about the most meaningless shit already.
>>
>>29500500
>I'm going to ignore that he's only highlighting his argument because I couldn't understand the point of the witty satire without this added help from him because he's so smart and funny and did I mention I totally absolutely get satire?

Try to be intellectually honest when you do it though it makes more sense that way

>Bug: an insect or other creeping or crawling invertebrate (as a spider or centipede)
>>
>>29500538

I never said "follow the conversation" but it's cool. Also, you do realize that the localization team didn't have all this in mind?
They chose bug because Gen I bugs are mostly insects, and while it doesn't mean the same thing, 10 year olds mostly call all insects bugs.

The problem comes in later gens when "bug" becomes a sketchy term to use but it was already set in the game lore, so arguing about semantics in a game that got it wrong over time is really fucking stupid.
>>
>>29498237
I could see them being labeled as not alive just because you know a group of fags would come up with a "virus rights" movement

To be honest, the virus debate of "alive" or not "alive" hasn't been solved for years by scholars, you fucks are not gonna solve it in a 4chan thread. However,
>>
>>29500631
The localization team, as well as the vast majority of people, understand "bug" to mean "creepy crawly". It's "insect" that people get wrong all the time.

>Bug became sketchy
When? When scientists were alerted that someone isn't using "bug" the way they need it to be used?
>>
>>29500703

Well we discovered real magic when all of academia seemingly failed.

Shitposters are the oppressed scientists of the modern age.
>>
>>29500720
No, it became sketchy when they started calling arachnids bugs in gen II, and then came Shuckle, Scollipede, and shellmet, which, in turn, was the origin for this stupid-ass discussions that have been on /vp/ since it's origins.
That's what I meant by sketchy you pedantic, passive-agressive fuck.

oh boo fucking hoo you aren't getting 40 new water pokemon to add to the existing 200. you're still getting more than 12 other types so far.

Do you exclusively use Eelektross?

I literally just need one qt unevolved water type. No ugly single-stage bullshit. If the urchin is water I'll be more than satisfied.

Also it's a fucking archipelago, what do you expect?

You'll pay for your sins in spider court

Also if we ever get a roach mon it will be water/fairy because I like to flush them down the toilet. (Fairy type represents poopy)

You get no right to complain. If the pokemon designs are not to your taste then boo-fucking-hoo. Truth is we don't need much more water types and we still got a lot.
>>

You'll get them, like it or not.
Or maybe the next gen will be set in a desert shithole, just for you. :^)
>>
>>29499102
"bug" is an umbrella term for creepy crawlies, my dude. spiders can be classified as bugs, but not insects.
:^)
>>

Why that's a Pokemon, Anon.

Bug is a catch all term for land invertebrates, which include members of the Hemiptera and Arthopoda family, maybe even mollusks, which is will Shelmet is considered a "bug",
>>
>>29502349
Shelmet was an asspull, because cloyster is not a bug.
>>
>>29494310
It's most likely going to be Water/Bug but I'd be really happy if it was part Electric-type, either Bug/Electric or Water/Electric.

Oh shit, I never noticed there's some undefined thing back behind the fully evolved form's "head". If it's just pulling a Spinarak and using mimicry to intimidate its foes (would make sense, since spiders breathe through their abdomens and that's the part of the diving spider that gets encapsulated in a bubble), it will solve all qualms I have with this line looking too artificial. Hope for this guy is renewed.

>GF are just to predictable

He says literally one day after the owl became a ghost, to EVERYONE'S surprise.

>Plus, if it were the case, why aren't there more distinct features on the pre-evo's bottom, like some actual fangs.

It's supposed to resemble an angry face. At least that's how I always saw it before the revelation that it could just be backwards/upside-down.
>>
>>29503598
So if that's its ass is the mouth the asshole/genital entrance?
>>
>>29503693
Could just be a pattern to sell the idea that it's a face, but I'm unsure that it would be an actual hole.

Maybe I have it all wrong and it's supposed to be/resemble an eyeball.

It's my fucking idea for a Pokemon, that's what it is! I thought of a diving bell spider pokemon that lived in a bubble years ago. They even took my idea to have bubbles on the legs joints that I got from this one bug that secretes this liquid from its legs.

A head with legs?
