For those who breed for shinies, does it make more sense to fill your PC with eggs and hatch them a set at a time, or should I save before receiving any eggs, breed until I get a party full of them, and SR until one of those batches gives me a shiny?

Here's what I started doing, and it saves time.

Save before your day-care dude has turned around. Get five eggs, hatch five eggs. Not shiny? SR. It has worked for me. The mon is determined upon the dude turning around.

Yep, on all of my games. I've been pretty lackluster in finding shinies via FS lately, and MM'ing is more time-consuming for me. Even now, I'm in 2-week-procrastination for this shiny Honedge. The odds are apparently 1/273 for hordes, 1/201 or something for DexNav and 1/512 for FS.

Friend Safari by far. Can just chill back, watch a movie, and get them Shinies.

Best thing is, thanks to Hyper Training and Ability Changers, all I have to worry about is Nature (if I care enough, I'll just use a sync)

So quite a lot of my FS Shinies can absolutely be competitively usable in Gen 7. I have found over 20 Shinies with this method. Easiest method with the best results, and just one Gen later, these Shinies can be usable, without needing to mass breed to get good IV Shinies.

So yeah, I recommend everybody to jump onto the Friend Safari for some easy Shinies in preparation for Gen 7.

I agree, FS is the best option before getting the shiny charm, once I get that I'll probably start doing hordes cause even those are a lot less frustrating than dexnav. nav pissed me off just farming for lucky eggs so I don't think I'd ever use it for shinies lmao. just because of the way it'll screw up if anything pops up randomly and that "look somewhere else" message would annoy me pretty bad. masuda hasn't worked for me either and I've already filled my 30 boxes.

i've heard this too, but with deerling and trubbish both over 500 encounters without chaining (aka i was purposely scaring off other pokemon that popped up) with no shiny, i do believe chaining them has something to do with the shiny rate. it's been 2 years now, i just wish we had a straight answer already

I don't look forward to this feel. I know I'll likely restart OR at some point after I convert my living dex to 7th gen data and said restart will include legend hunting.

Using DexNav for Skorupi and ran away from all Keen Eye that appeared. 702 encounters until the red Skorupi appeared and at 738 the 2nd one appeared. So far this is my highest number of encounters with a pokemon using dexnav and not being shiny.

Living dex fags. Remember that repeat balls exist. They were useless to me prior to making my own living dex so I completely forgot they exist until I was resetting for a legendary in a friends game.

I did not want a Keen Eye shiny Skorupi at all. I don't believe that there is a chain rate for shinies using DexNav. Shiny pokemon just appear more often than a regular encounter and it has worked for me dozens of times.

What's the source on those rates? I've been saying all along that it was the DexNav level that affected shiny rate based on my own testing but everyone assured me it was a flat rate like the Friend Safari or that it increased with chain length and reset if the chain was broken. If this is legit it's nice to know I was right.

I don't hunt for shinies so I shouldn't even be in this general, but I'm really happy, shiny Mega Gardevoir was always my number 1 dream shiny. It has a Calm nature so could be useful in battle too.

Luckily for for me I don't have to worry about that since while hatching the rest of the eggs I got another shiny that's missing HP which is perfect since I can fix that.
But even if I didn't I keep my shinies since I worked hard for them and I am not that much of a perfectionist as long as they have the proper moves nature and ability and can function in the competitive scene I'm OK.

You realign by picking up another egg which you have to do anyway. Friend safari is faster than hatching but you might not even get the pokemon you were looking for, and you only have 50% chance of getting the right nature even with synchronize.Plus if you aren't paying attention when the pokemon pops up you have to wait ages for the camera to pan away from your mon.

So I just found pic related a few minutes ago randomly while trying to get apricorns on HG. 17 days after I SR'ed for a shiny Chikorita, my last shiny. I got a lucky game.

I was watching a vid at the same time and thank fucking god I looked down as I got an encounter; I don't think I'd be able to tell the difference if I didn't see a sparkle (had the sound muted).
