I'm confused, which timeline is SM?

It has Sina and Dexio, Fairy-types, and Mega Evolution, so probably the same timeline as X/Y and OR/AS.

They never started referring to the anime's existence until Generation VI, either, so it's possible that "this timeline" is Ash's world.

There's only one timeline. The "alternate timelines" are just inaccurate retellings of the same stories.

In XY mega evolution was discovered recently, shown to humans by Lucario, so there's no reason for it to be separate to the other games.

In ORAS, mega evolution was discovered a long time ago when Rayquaza mega evolved.
