Our forst step is to find out, how old Lusamine is.
Her age is the key to all of this.

Lusamine is the eldest sister, she probably inherited the Aether Foundation from her parents or something. She fucked around with some things she wasn't meant to fuck with, and unleashed the Ultra Beasts upon the world. She did some experiments to see if anything could stop them, creating Type: Null (directly basing it off Arceus) and experimenting on Cosmog for its relation to Solgaleo/Lunala.

Gladion, the middle child, was terrified of what Lusamine was doing, since she created a Pokémon that was meant to rival gods. So he stole Type: Null and joined Team Skull to stop Lusamine's nefarious plans.

Lillie, the youngest sister, took a liking to Cosmog, and didn't want it to be hurt by Aether. So she too stole it and hides it in her bag, trying to keep it safe.

It's pretty common for young women in Japan, even just out of high school, to get married and start a family. You can't discount her being a mother based on her age. We've seen from the Pokemon series there's not character difference on someone early 20s-mid 30s.

Lusamine is an evil bitch.

Gladion wanted to become stronger to fight her and stole his bro they experimented on, Type:Null. Joined Team Skull because he saw that they could help him.

Lillie ran away with Cosmog to protect it from being experimented on and became the Professor's assistant due to her knowledge of Pokemon.

I don't see the three of them having a good relationship with each other at all though, not even Gladion and Lillie, or else they would have joined the Prof together.
